We are seeking works that are unique and challenging specifically for the toy piano.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are the rules for this year&#8217;s competition:<\/strong><br \/>\n1. Pieces must be written for one toy piano only<br \/>\n2. Electronics is optional, but must work for Mac OS X with an Intel processor<br \/>\n3. Pieces can be of any length<br \/>\n4. Inventions of prepared toy piano techniques are also encouraged<\/p>\n<p>The UnCaged Toy Piano is open to composers of all ages and nationalities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Judges:<\/strong><br \/>\nPhyllis Chen, toy pianist<br \/>\nWendy Mae Chambers, composer and toy pianist<br \/>\nMargaret Leng Tan, toy pianist, pianist<br \/>\nNathan Davis, composer<\/p>\n<p>Judges will select winning works appropriate to this year&#8217;s theme. Winning works (2-4 pieces) will be performed by Phyllis Chen in the Fall of 2009 at New York City. Works will also be included in Phyllis&#8217;s 2009-2010 performance cycle across the US.<\/p>\n<p>Grand Prize : $1000<br \/>\nPeculiar Prize: a toy piano selected by Phyllis Chen<br \/>\nThe Peculiar Prize goes to a piece that displays virtuosity in an unconventional way (i.e. extended techniques, prepared toy piano, installation, etc.) Grand Prize winner may also win the Peculiar Prize.<\/p>\n<p>Please send one copy of the score and a short biography. There are many ways to view &#8220;Virtuosity&#8221;. We encourage you to include a brief note on how your work fits into this year&#8217;s theme.
