{"id":1043,"date":"2010-03-17T18:58:27","date_gmt":"2010-03-18T02:58:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.phyllischen.net\/?p=1043"},"modified":"2010-03-17T18:58:53","modified_gmt":"2010-03-18T02:58:53","slug":"a-new-piece-by-karlheinz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.phyllischen.net\/index.php\/2010\/03\/17\/a-new-piece-by-karlheinz\/","title":{"rendered":"A new piece by Karlheinz"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have \u00c2\u00a0recently started working on a new piece written for me by the Austrian composer\/performer\/improviser\/educator\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.essl.at\/\">Karlheinz Essl<\/a>. \u00c2\u00a0I first heard of Karlheinz from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/xtp\/xtp.html\">Extensible Toy Piano Project<\/a> in 2005 where I performed one of his pieces, <em>Kalimba<\/em>, for the festival. Since then, I have played numerous of his works for toy piano including <em>Kalimba, Sequitur<\/em> and <em>WebernSpielWerk.<\/em> In fact, at most of my concerts I&#8217;m playing one of them. After playing so many of his great pieces, I am so honored and happy to be premiering his new piece , <em>Whatever Shall Be<\/em> (for toy piano, gadgets, live-electronics and surround sound) at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lookandlisten.org\/\">Look &amp; Listen Festival<\/a> in May. \u00c2\u00a0Without giving too much away, I am extremely excited to be performing a piece that asks for such unconventional approaches to the instrument.<\/p>\n<p>The festival is a great annual new music event that happens in galleries around the Chelsea area.
