the 1st UnCaged Composition Competition

The UnCaged Toy Piano Competition is a composition competition to expand the toy piano repertoire. We are searching for solo, chamber, electro-acoustic or multimedia works that use the toy piano in a unique fashion. This year, the theme is Virtuosity. Please see competition details for more information.

Thanks to everyone who sent in compositions for the UnCaged Toy Piano! We had a remarkable amount of submissions that made it difficult to adjudicate this year. The winners are as follows:

Grand Prize: Georg Hajdu “Tsunami”
Second Prize: Angelica Negron “Columpio”
Third Prize: Jeff Morris “Chromatic Greys”

Thanks to everyone who sent in pieces! It was so encouraging to find so many composers interested in the toy piano. First prize winner received a concert-grand toy piano generously donated by Schoenhut Toy Piano. The UnCaged Toy Piano Concert was held October 23, 2008 at the Christopher Henry Gallery, (127 Elizabeth Street, NYC) 8:30 pm.
